Weekly Market Comment – July 15th 2019
Equity market performance was very mixed last week. In the US the large-cap S&P 500 Index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached new records. The Nasdaq Index, which is a technology heavy benchmark, also performed well and is now up 24% year to date. In Europe, markets fell despite signs that the ECB are willing to engage in fresh stimulus efforts. We saw fresh signs of trade tensions between Europe and the US as France ignored US threats and imposed a digital tax on foreign technology companies. Small cap stocks in Europe and the US have continued to languish.
