Weekly Market Comment – July 29th 2019
Markets in both Europe and the US rose last week. In Europe, positive earnings reports and the prospect of fresh stimulus from the ECB caused markets to advance. In the US, earnings have been flat but investors have instead focused on economic and political events. The prospect of progress in the US/China trade talks lifted markets earlier in the week as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced he will fly to Shanghai for talks. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Index both reached record highs.
